Faith E. O’Neal Scholarship

In 2005, in recognition of her outstanding work on behalf of the Queens County legal community and her overall professional excellence, the Queens County Women’s Bar Association established The Faith E. O’Neal Scholarship, honoring the memory of Faith E. O’Neal.

Faith passed away on March 10, 2005. Her sudden death shocked and saddened the Court and all who knew her. Faith was a graduate of Yale University and New York University School of Law. Faith started her legal career at the Legal Aid Society in the Criminal Appeals Bureau. Prior to joining the Criminal Court Law Department in 2001, Faith worked as a Court Attorney in New York Supreme Court, Civil Term and before that, in Queens Supreme Court, Criminal Term, for the Honorable Pearle Appelman.

Faith was a dedicated member, board member and officer of the Queens County Women’s Bar Association. She served as the co-chair of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York’s Diversity Committee and a state delegate for the Queens County Women’s Bar Association. Faith was the President of the Law Secretaries and Law Assistants Collegium and the Association of Law Secretaries to the Justices of the Supreme and Surrogates Court.

Eligible recipients are students enrolled at an ABA accredited law school that have completed their first full semester and are domiciled in Queens County, or attend a law school in Queens County. The scholarship committee shall make its determination based on community service, financial need, academics and a written personal statement. In the past, two scholarships were awarded annually.

At our 2023 Judiciary Night, we will announce the winners of three scholarships, each in the amount of $2,500 to three outstanding law students who have demonstrated a sincere dedication to Public Interest.
